Writing has never come easily to me. Over the years, I've filled countless notebooks in an attempt to keep a diary. When I was working on my master's degree, writing the thesis was undoubtedly the most difficult part of the entire process (which made me realize there was no chance I would continue to a PhD). Even writing posts for LocaLocal's social media takes me a lot of time—writing, editing, and revising—before I finally upload them. I’m not sure why it’s always so hard.
The idea of starting a blog on my website began to nag at me when I first launched it sometime in 2019, especially because the little SEO checkbox in Wix kept recommending a blog as a great way to reach new audiences and improve search performance. But I ignored it.
A few years later, in 2022, I even participated in a Wix test to see how users were interacting with the blog feature (and won a BuyMe voucher in return). Once again, the idea of starting a blog crossed my mind. After all, I have a lot to say, and my head is full of thoughts. But once again, the idea of writing got pushed aside.
The thought resurfaces every now and then, like after a successful trip in Israel or abroad that I want to summarize and share recommendations from, or when something interesting happens in Tel Aviv, or if I develop a new recipe or have a thought I’d like to explore. Sometimes I just want a place to record and revisit my thoughts in the future.
So why start now? Lots of reasons!
I have a lot of free time, since there aren’t many tours right now, and my second job doesn’t fill my day.
The difficulty I have with writing feels like it’s holding me back, making it hard to promote the business and reach new audiences.
I attended a lecture by Ronit Kafir, read her blog, and thought, "I want to do this, too." Maybe I can even be good at it.
And, perhaps, because I recently finished a long period of psychological treatment and I’m searching for a way to express my thoughts.
So, I’ve decided to push myself out of my comfort zone and start writing. I created this blog on my website, and I’m uploading it without telling anyone—just for myself, until I feel ready to share it more widely.
What will I write about? Lots of things, I hope!
Of course, I’ll write about topics related to LocaLocal—whether it’s new or old places I discover in Tel Aviv or things I have opinions about. I’ll write about what I enjoy in the city, about other places I visit in Israel or abroad, and if I have any recommendations.
I’ll also write about food and cooking—whether it’s recipes, ingredients, or just thoughts I have about food.
I’m a naturally curious person, so I’m always learning or discovering new things. I figure other people might find these interesting, or maybe not—but I’ll leave that to whoever ends up reading this blog.
I’ll also share my experiences as an independent business owner in Israel and what it’s like to navigate that world.
And probably other random thoughts that pop into my head, things I’d like to put into writing.
I really hope these thoughts will resonate with others, and if not, that’s okay too. At least I’ve started writing.
