Carmel Market &
Kerem HaTeimanim
Food Tour
Freshly squeezed juice, Yemenite pastries from a tiny bakery, soup simmering on traditional stoves, crispy falafel and a fish sandwich straight from the fisherman. We’ll start in the lanes of Kerem HaTeimanim, Tel Aviv’s Yemenite Quarter, before heading into Carmel Market.
I used to live in the Kerem and fell in love with the neighbourhood. Between bites, we’ll meet the people who bring the neighbourhood and market to life, and discover how this part of Tel Aviv has changed over the years.
What will we taste, and what’s the story?
There is so much good food in Carmel Market and Kerem HaTeimanim that choosing what to include was honestly one of the hardest parts. I picked each stop because the food is delicious, of course, but also because it helps tell the story of the neighbourhood and the market. We’ll eat, meet the people behind the food and, between bites, see how this part of Tel Aviv became what it is today.

We’ll begin in the narrow lanes of Kerem HaTeimanim, the Yemenite Quarter. A Jewish community with ancient roots in Yemen shaped the neighbourhood, and we’ll get to know some of the things that made this community so distinctive: its food and traditions, but also the closeness between families and neighbours. How did such a close community grow among tiny houses and crowded lanes? And what happens to that closeness when a once-poor, neglected neighbourhood becomes one of the most desirable places to live in Tel Aviv?
From there, we’ll continue into Carmel Market, Tel Aviv’s oldest food market. It used to be a place people came to from all over the city to shop and run errands. Today, the market itself is often the reason for the visit. Who comes here now, and what has changed as a result? Between the older stalls and the newer places to eat, we’ll see how those changes show up in the businesses, the market and the streets around it, with plenty of street food along the way.

Tal's tour of the Carmel Market and Yemenite Vineyard was amazing. I can highly recommend it, just for the bread alone (trust me, the bread is great), but there was so many different food experiences and history on the area during the tour. Tal is extremely helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Don't hesitate, just book it, you won't be disappointed.
